For college students like Hayley Milam, flip flops and T-shirts are not fashionable enough to wear to a college football game. Instead, Milam, who attends the University of Florida, boasts orange and blue dresses handmade by Janet Ledesma.
Ledesma launched Game On Dresses in June. It’s an online business that specializes in making wardrobe specific to college team colors. “The goal is to help the coeds look good on game day,” she said.
The Palm Beach Gardens resident initially started making black and gold dresses a few years ago for the friends of her son Wesley, who was attending the University of Central Florida.

“Janet’s dresses were great quality. She does a really good job,” said Jennifer McLeod, the owner of The Prim Rose. “I enjoyed working with her tremendously, and I wish her success.”
This past year, Ledesma’s son encouraged her to sell her designs online to reach college students and alumni from around the country.
She learned how to edit pictures of her products through Photoshop, as well as how to popularize her dresses by adding hashtags of the different colleges to her pictures on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
“I try to give a good presentation of the products,” Ledesma said. “I’m pleased that I got the website done in time for football season.”
Ledesma feels that the Internet is a great tool for small businesses.
Ledesma strives to make her dresses, which come in chevron, color block and floral patterns, affordable for a college student’s budget, costing $39.99.
She believes there is a market for National Football League, Major League Baseball and even high school colors, too.
Jill Burnett bought her daughters, Lauren and Elise, dresses in red, white and black, the colors of South Fork High School, where they attend in Stuart.
“They both have different body types, but it looks great on both of them,” Burnett said. “The material is very nice. You can tell it is well-made with the stitching.”
